        ၂၀၀၈ ခုနှစ်မှစ၍ အမေရိကန်ပြည်ထောင်စုတွင် မြန်မာဒုက္ခသည်များ ပြန်လည်နေရာ ချထားရေးမှာ တိုး၍တိုး၍လာ၏။ မြန်မာဒုက္ခသည်များ ထဲ တွင် ကချင်၊ ကရင်၊ ကရင်နီ(ကယား)၊ ချင်း၊ မွန်၊ ဗမာ၊ ရခိုင်၊ ရှမ်း နှင့် ဒေသန္တ ရအလိုက်ကွဲပြားသော ဘာသာစကားပြောသည့် အခြားမျိုးနွယ်စုများ ပါဝင် သည်။ အမေရိကန်ပြည်ထောင်စုတွင် အခြေချလာသော ထိုသူတို့မှာ ထိုင်း-မြန်မာနယ်စပ် ဒုက္ခ သည် စခန်းများ၊ မလေးရှားနှင့် အိန္ဒိယနိုင်ငံများမှ ဖြစ်ကြ ၏။ အကျိုးဆက်မှာ အမေရိကန်ပြည်ထောင်စု အတွင်းမြော်လင့်ခြင်း အသင်းသားမြန်မာဒုက္ခသည်များဟူ၍ဖြစ်လာရခြင်းဖြစ်သည်။  

        မြောက်အမေရိက ဒီဝီဇံအတွင်းရှိ များပြားသော ဒေသန္တရအသင်းတော် များနှင့် ဒေသန္တရကွန်းဖရင့်များက သူတို့၏တံခါးဝ တွင် သူတို့လေးတွေကို မျက်ဝါး ထင်ထင် တွေ့မြင်ရသည်တိုင်အောင် ထိုမြန်မာ ဒုက္ခသည်များကို သတိမထားမိခဲ့ကြပေ။ Andrews ဓမ္မတက္ကသိုလ်တွင် ၂၀၀၈ ခုနှစ်မှစ၍ ပညာသင်ကြားသော သင်းအုပ်ဆရာ Samuel Ngala က မြန်မာဒုက္ခသည် များအကြားတွင် အသင်းတော်တည်ထောင်ရန် ဘုရားသခင်က သူ၏ စိတ်နှလုံးကိုတို့ထိသည်။                                                                                                    
        ၂၀၁၀ ခုနှစ် အင်ဒီယားနားပိုးလစ်ရှိ မြန်မာဒုက္ခသည်များထံ အလည် အပတ် ရောက်စဥ်က သင်းအုပ်ဆရာဆမ်သည် မြော်လင့်ခြင်းအသင်းသား မိသားစုတစ်စုနှင့် ဆုံမိသည်။ ထိုမိသားစုက မြော်လင့်ခြင်းဘုရားကျောင်း တစ်ဆောင်တွင်ဝတ်ပြု လိုကြ၏။ သင်းအုပ်ဆရာဆမ်သည် ထိုမြို့တွင်ရှိသော မြော်လင့်ခြင်းဘုရာကျောင်း အချို့တွင် သွားရောက်လည်ပတ်ကာ ဒုက္ခသည်များအတွက် အသင့်လျော်ဆုံးဖြစ်မည့် နေရာတစ်နေရာကို ရှာဖွေ ပေးသည်။

         အင်ဒီယားနားမြို့တော်၏ တောင်ဘက်ပိုင်းတွင် မြန်မာဒုက္ခသည်များ အနေများသောကြောင့် သင်း အုပ်ဆရာဆမ်က ထိုအရပ်ရှိ မြော်လင့်ခြင်း ဘုရားကျောင်း သည် သူတို့အတွက်အကောင်းဆုံးဖြစ်မည်ဟု ဆုံးဖြတ်၏။ ထိုမြန်မာအသင်းတော် သည် ဦးဒိုခန့်ခွါလ် နှင့်မိသားစု၊ ဦးအိုက်ချာလ်စ် နှင့် မိသားစု၊ ဆရာ ရစ်ချက်၊ ဒေါ်လီလီပါလ် နှင့်မိသားစု၊ ဦးပေါင်ရှန်းစွတ်၊ ဦးထောင်းမန် နှင့် Southside အသင်းတော်ရှိ အခြားလူအနည်းငယ်ဖြင့် အသင်းတော်အစပြုခဲ့ခြင်း ဖြစ်သည်။ ကနဦးတွင် ချင်းသာသနာအဖွဲ့ဟု လူသိ သည်။ နောင်တွင် ဘာသာစကားအမျိုးမျိုးအသုံး ပြုသောလူထုကို ပို၍ (ကိုယ်စားပြု) ထင်ဟပ်စေရန် အတွက်Hopeမြော်လင့်ခြင်း (အသင်းတော်) ဟုနာမည်ပြောင်းခဲ့ရသည်။

         သင်းအုပ်ဆရာဆမ်က Southside မြော်လင့်ခြင်းအသင်းတော်၏ သင်းအုပ်ဆရာ Brian Yensho နှင့် Southside အသင်းတော်အား မြန်မာ ဒုက္ခသည်များအကြားတွင် အလုပ်လုပ်ပေးရန်နှင့် မြန်မာဥပုသ် စာဖြေအတန်း အတွက် တစ်နေ ရာစာပေးရန် တောင်းဆိုသည်။ သင်းအုပ်ဆရာ Brian Yensho ၏ရုံးခန်းကို မြန်မာဥပုသ်စာဖြေ ကျောင်းအတွက် စီစဥ်ပေးခဲ့သည်။ သီတင်းပတ်အနည်းငယ်တွင် အဆိုပါမြန်မာ ဥပုသ်စာဖြေအတန်းမှာ ထိုရုံး ခန်း၌မဆံ့တော့ချေ။

         ISCA အလယ်တန်းကျောင်းနှင့် IA ခေါ် အင်ဒီယားနား အကယ်ဒမီ အထက်တန်းကျောင်း သို့တက် ရောက်ကြသော ကျွန်ုပ်တို့ ကျောင်းသူ/သား များ၏ အချို့သော လိုအပ်ချက်များဖြစ်သည့် ကျောင်း မှတ်ပုံတင်ခြင်းနှင့် ကူညီထောက်ပံ့ပေးခြင်းတို့ကို လုပ်ပေးရန်၊ ဈေးရောင်းပွဲတွင် မြန်မာ့အစား အစာ ရောင်းချခြင်းကို အနည်းဆုံး တစ်နှစ်တစ်ကြိမ် ကျင်းပဖြစ်သည်။ ဤစျေးရောင်းပွဲမှာ တစ်ဦးနှင့် တစ်ဦးကာလကြာရှည် မတွေ့ခဲ့ကြရသော မိသားစုများသော်လည်းကောင်း၊ တစ်ဦးချင်းသော် လည်းကောင်း ရင်းရင်း နှီးနှီး ဆုံစည်းရာအရပ်ဖြစ်စေ၍ သူတို့မိသားစုအတွင်းရှိ လတ်တလော အဖြစ်အပျက်များနှင့်အပြောင်းအလဲများကိုဖလှယ်ရာနေရာလည်းဖြစ်သည်။

        ၂၀၁၂ ခုနှစ်တွင် Hope Adventist အသင်းသားများက အင်ဒီယားနား Mizo SDA အသင်းတော်တည် ထောင်ခြင်းကို ကူညီသည်။ ၂၀၁၆ ခုနှစ် တွင်လည်း Hope Adventist အသင်းသားများက အင်ဒီယားနား Zomi SDA အသင်းတော် တည်ထောင်ခြင်းကို ကူညီကြပြန်၏။ စက်တင်ဘာ ၂၀၊ ၂၀၁၆ တွင် အင်ဒီ ယားနား ကွန်းဖရင့် အလုပ်အမှုဆောင် ကော်မတီ (Indiana Conference Executive Committee) က Hope Adventist ကို church company (အသင်းတော်အဖွဲ့ခွဲ) သို့လည်းကောင်း၊ ဧပြီ ၂၃၊ ၂၀၂၄ တွင် Company မှ Church အဖြစ်သို့လည်းကောင်း အသီးသီးသတ်မှတ် ပေးခဲ့ပါသည်။ NAD တွင်ရှိသောမြန်မာအသင်းတော်များအနက်၊ ပထမဆုံး Church status တင်းပြည့်အသင်းတော် ဖြစ်ပါသည်။

         သင်းအုပ်ဆရာဆမ် နှင့် သူ၏မိသားစုသည် ကယ်လီဖိုးနီးယားပြည်နယ် Weimar တက္ကသိုလ်တွင် ပညာတော်သင်ရန် ထွက်သွားကြသောအခါ၊ သင်းအုပ်ဆရာ ဆွမ်လျှံခမ် (Suan Lian Kham) က ၂၀၂၁ ဩဂုတ်မှစ၍ Hope Adventist အသင်းတော်ကို စတင်၍ အလုပ်အကျွေးပြုသည်။

Brief History of Hope Adventist Congregation, Indianapolis, Indiana

Resettlement of Burmese refugees in the United States began in greater numbers from 2008 onward.

These Burmese refugees included Kachin, Karen, Karenni, Chin, Mon, Myanmar, Rakhine, Shan, and other language groups.

They were resettled in the United States from refugee camps along the Thai-Myanmar border, as well as from Malaysia and India.

As a result, Adventist Burmese refugees also began arriving in the United States.

Many local churches and conferences in the North American Division were not initially aware of these Burmese refugees until they began appearing at their doorsteps.

God touched the heart of Pastor Samuel Ngala, who began his theological studies in 2008 at the Seventh-day Adventist Theological Seminary at Andrews University, with a burden for church planting among Burmese refugees.

In 2010, while visiting Burmese refugees in Indianapolis, Pastor Samuel Ngala met an Adventist family who desired to worship in an Adventist church.

He visited several Seventh-day Adventist churches in Indianapolis to identify which would best serve the refugees.

Since most Burmese refugees were living on the south side of Indianapolis, Pastor Samuel Ngala determined that Southside SDA Church would be the most suitable location.

The Burmese church plant began at Southside Church with Pa Do Khan Khual and family, U Aik Charles and family, Saya Richard Lian, Lily Par and family, Pa Pau Sian Sut, Pa Thawng Mang, and a few others.

It was initially known as the Chin Mission Group.

A few years later, the name was changed to Hope Adventist to better represent the diverse language groups within the congregation.

Pastor Samuel Ngala requested Pastor Brian Yensho, then pastor of Southside SDA Church, and the Southside Church leadership to support ministry among Burmese refugees and to provide space for a Sabbath School class.

Pastor Brian Yensho’s office was first used as a Sabbath School classroom for the Burmese group, but within a few weeks it became too small to accommodate the growing attendance.

Grandpa Abe and Lavon Siador, along with other Southside Church members, visited refugees in their apartments, prayed with them, and provided practical assistance.

Pastor Brian Yensho also conducted pastoral visitations and led small group Sabbath afternoon worship services in refugee homes.

Jane Lake, who led Adventist Community Services at Southside Church, ensured that food, clothing, and household items were provided for newly arrived refugees.

Church members, including Pa Do Khan Khual and family, Lily Par and family, Wayne and Stephanie Moore, and many others, provided lodging for Pastor Samuel Ngala when he traveled from Andrews University.

ASAP Ministries, along with its founder Judy Aiken, Pat Erhard, John Goodsite, John Sutton, and many others, supported Pastor Samuel Ngala’s ministry by providing fuel assistance and loaning vehicles for weekend refugee outreach in Indianapolis.

Additional Adventist refugee families who joined the church plant included Pa Steven En Thang and family, Saw Rainbow and family, Pa Duh Tling, Saya Ngo Khan Mang and family, Saya Nanda Kyaw and family, Saya Lalbiakhuma and family, Pa Hau Khan Thang and family, Pa Dal Sian Piang and family, Pa Tin Thawng and family, and many others.

To promote fellowship and spiritual growth, home cell (small group) worship services were held weekly in different members’ homes.

To nurture children and youth, Adventist Youth (AY) programs were conducted weekly or biweekly.

Grandpa Joe and Mrs. Stoia, Nancy Greenwald, Amber Bower, members of the Indianapolis Southside Christian Academy (ISCA) School Board, Southside SDA Church, and the Indiana Conference helped make it possible for refugee children to attend ISCA.

Mung Sian Hau and Amy became the first refugee students to study at ISCA.

Pastor Samuel Ngala was blessed with a ministry partner and wife, Eh Paw Thaung, who came all the way from Australia to serve in ministry alongside him.

Cynthia DeHart, Teresa Humphrey, Carole Sannes, Ellen Wherry, Zen Ho Nuam, Kam Lamh Huai, Stephanie Khin Sain, En Sian Muang, David Kang, David & Liana Ngala, and NgaNgaih faithfully taught Youth, Primary, and Cradle Roll Sabbath School classes.

These teachers ensured that children and youth were welcomed, loved, and cared for.

Pastor David Kang, Chris Bower, Chris Humphrey, Nancy Greenwald, Chris Cross, Bob and Carol Sannes, David Ngala, Kam Lamh Huai, and many others, in partnership with Mizo SDA Church and Zomi SDA Church, helped restart the Pathfinder and Adventurer Clubs after a three-decade hiatus.

To support student registration and financial needs for ISCA and Indiana Academy (IA), a Burmese food fair was held at least once a year.

This event also served as an opportunity for families and individuals to reconnect, socialize, and share updates about their lives.

In 2012, members of Hope Adventist helped launch the Indiana Mizo SDA Church.

In 2016, members of Hope Adventist helped launch the Indiana Zomi SDA Church.

On September 20, 2016, the Indiana Conference Executive Committee voted to grant Hope Adventist church company status, and from Company to Church status on April 23, 2024.

Pastor Suan Lian Kham began overseeing the Hope Adventist Congregation in August 2021, when Pastor Samuel Ngala and family left for Weimar University in California to pursue further studies.

Elders who have served at Hope Adventist include: Ngo Khan Mang (2012–2013, 2015, 2022), Dal Sian Piang (2014, 2016), David Ngala (2016–2018), Oak Soe (2019–2020), Saw Rainbow Ah (2021–2023, 2026), Nanda Kyaw (2015, 2022–2023, 2025–2026), Tin Thawng (2023), Hau Khan Thang (2024), and Myo Zaw Aung (2024–2026), serving at different times.

Currently, by the grace of God, the congregation has 33 households (including singles), with 81 baptized members.

The total Sabbath School membership is 126.

The average weekly church attendance is about 66 individuals.
